On Thursday, March 12 at 10:30 AM the CBC Boomers will visit St. Andrew Orthodox Church. There they will learn about the church and its building, which a recent article in the Lexington Herald-Leader describes as “an extraordinary universe - a jewel box of glittering gold leaf and sumptuous colors – of religious worship brought to life through divine depictions of the life and death of Christ.”
The works were done by renowned iconographer Ksenia Pokrovsky, who started learning her craft in Moscow in secret in 1969 since icon painting was outlawed by the Soviet government as part of its ban on religion. She moved to the US in the 1990s.
The church is located at 1136 Higbee Mill Road (just off Clays Mill) in Lexington. EVERYONE is invited to attend. Contact Pat Ingram if you are interested in participating.
